these are the ideas you developed:
Bush’s tone/ ideas and what we
understand about the speech…
The population is shocked= he is
shocked as well : see lesson part 1
He says : “Cannot touch the foundation”
So this means that Bush is revolted
about the attack
Ø He says that to reassure the citizens / he wants to give them hope, to cheer them up/ to raise their spirits .
In the same time he gives them power/ strength
His voice is a little bit aggressive
Ø He defends his nation/ he behaves like a protector / as if he were their protector/
because he is the head of the nation / he speaks like a hero / like a father talking to his children
= the tone is
reassuring
As the president of the USA he is strong/ powerful and he can ask the help of other countries……
He wants to help his citizens/ he wants to make them feel better because they are frightened
/ they feel lost and very sad, shocked, terrified, scared, moved, ….and maybe angry/ very disturbed… completely desperate… they can’t
control themselves
THEY NEED SOMEONE….and he says I’M HERE FOR YOU
He doesn’t want the country/ the nation, to remain sad
He is like a soldier ….
Ø He says “a great people has been moved to DEFEND a great nation”… he is angry, he wants
to tell them they have to stand up and fight, to destroy the terrorists….
Ø He also says “ our military is powerful and prepared”
Ø He says that to the nation and to the military but also to the terrorists; he is sending a message to them saying WE ARE READY to defend ourselves…= don’t attack/ don’t do it again
