You worked in pairs and had to present yourselves to the class. You had to use expressions about tastes and differences and/ or similarities. You had to work on the phonetics ( how the words have to be pronounced and how the syllables have to be stressed) but you also had to develop your communication skills : phonology = pronunciation in context / and sentence stress.

(Hugo R. and Théo W.'s video will be edited and published next week ( I'm sorry about the delay)

you made nice efforts to improve your oral English.

Enjoy!

Our new document deals with refugees. Before understanding our text and before analyzing or reading about refugees thanks to the following links, make sure you know the definition of a "REFUGEE" and also that you know about the REFUGEE PROGRAM OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" ( documents given in class)

Have a look at the tables you can find on the documents of the MPI, click on the logo ( scroll down until you find two grids from 1980 to 2003). Refugees allocations change ! What about 2002 ? Any explanations ????

these are the ideas you developed:

Bush’s tone/ ideas and what we understand about the speech…

The population is shocked= he is shocked as well : see lesson part 1

He says :  Cannot touch the foundation”

So this means that Bush is revolted about the attack

Ø    He says that to reassure the citizens / he wants to give them hope, to cheer them up/ to raise their spirits .

In the same time he gives them power/ strength

His voice is a little bit aggressive

Ø    He defends his nation/ he behaves like a protector / as if he were their protector/ because he is the head of the nation / he speaks like a hero / like a father talking to his children

= the tone is reassuring

As the president of the USA he is strong/ powerful and he can ask the help of other countries……

He wants to help his citizens/ he wants to make them feel better because they are frightened / they feel lost and very sad, shocked, terrified, scared, moved, ….and maybe angry/ very disturbed… completely desperate… they can’t control themselves

THEY NEED SOMEONE….and he says I’M HERE FOR YOU

He doesn’t want the country/ the nation, to remain sad

He is like a soldier ….

Ø    He says “a great people has been moved to DEFEND a great nation”… he is angry, he wants to tell them they have to stand up and fight, to destroy the terrorists….

Ø    He also says “ our military is powerful and prepared”

Ø    He says that to the nation and to the military but also to the terrorists; he is sending a message to them  saying  WE ARE READY to defend ourselves…= don’t  attack/ don’t do it again

Here you have the third part of the video we are working on.

Describe the scene, say what happens, where, why, when ....

Make also hypotheses about what may have happened ( remember: modalité dans le passé).

Have a nice week end... do not forget to prepare your oral/ written work on part 1 and 2. ( written: you prepare, oral: what you must be able to do in class)

Here you have the second sequence of the  music video "Wake me up When September Ends"

( I remind you it's better not to watch the whole video  in order to be fully concentrated on each element and avoid mixing ideas with what will happen next)

After watching the short sequence ( 50 "), answer the following questions:

Who / where/ when/ what....( describe the episode )

Pay attention to the way it is filmed and edited, ( to edit=monter: couper/ coller/ séquencer un film) explain.

What does this sequence represent?

What is the general atmospher?

What is the link with the 1st episode we studied in class?

have fun................and enjoy your holidays!!!
